Emy Gazeilles to Perform Carl Orff's Carmina Burana at the Philharmonie de Paris

Soprano Emy Gazeilles will perform the soprano solo in Carl Orff's Carmina Burana at the Philharmonie de Paris – Cité de la musique on 27 September 2026.

This engagement marks Emy Gazeilles' return to the Philharmonie de Paris, where she previously appeared in 2022, stepping in at short notice to perform Germaine Tailleferre's Concerto de la Fidélité.

Composed in 1935–36, Carmina Burana is one of the landmark works of the twentieth-century choral repertoire. Based on the medieval Codex Buranus, the cantata explores the ever-turning Wheel of Fortune, the awakening of spring, the exhilaration of youth, love and earthly pleasures. Its unmistakable rhythmic language and monumental choruses, most famously O Fortuna, have established it as one of the most frequently performed concert works in the world.

The soprano solo part includes some of the score's most celebrated pages, notably In trutina and Dulcissime, requiring lyrical refinement.

Presented as part of the Philharmonie de Paris's Come and Sing project, the performance brings together professional soloists, the Chœur de l'Orchestre de Paris, the Children's Choir of the Orchestre de Paris, and several hundred participating singers for this large-scale interpretation of Orff's masterpiece.
