Dialogues of the Carmelites – an opera by Francis Poulenc performed by the Opéra and Orchestre de Normandie.
A powerful and unforgettable night of opera, captured live from the Opéra de Rouen. Don’t miss this deeply moving production directed by Tiphaine Raffier.
Perhaps the most powerful tragic work in the French operatic repertoire—and with it, the promise of an unforgettable experience. For this new production, the Opéra de Rouen welcomes Tiphaine Raffier, acclaimed for the emotional depth of her theatre productions.
Surrounded by a French cast, she presents her highly anticipated first opera staging. Through her vision, we feel the doubts, courage, and defiant spirit of the Carmelite nuns as the Reign of Terror unfolds and the guillotine casts its threatening shadow. Poulenc’s sublime music captures the collective anxiety and determination of the sisters.
It leaves an indelible mark—one that resonates long after the final chord, wrapped in silence.
