The Famous Story of Robinson Crusoe by Daniel Defoe, the talent of Jacques Offenbach, the first staging by Laurent Pelly presented at the Opéra de Rennes, and a particularly promising cast... a remarkable event to close the season.
Introduction
While Offenbach’s operettas are regularly featured in lyric theatres, his more serious works are rarely performed, with the exception of Les Contes d’Hoffmann.
The music of Robinson Crusoe reveals treasures of imagination and color, brought to life by the Orchestre National de Bretagne and conductor Guillaume Tourniaire, one of the greatest specialists in French music. Who better than Laurent Pelly to stage this little-known score and find the subtle balance between humor and poetry, while questioning our relationship to the unknown and to strangers?
